For indoor growers, soil sits in an awkward middle ground. It is more forgiving than hydro and less inert than coco, but it is not self-managing. Bagged soils vary widely, some come heavily amended, others are closer to a light potting mix, and the feeding approach that works in one room can be too aggressive in another. A good soil nutrients feeding schedule starts with one basic question: how much nutrition is already in the pot? Fresh, nutrient-rich soil can carry a young plant for days or even weeks. Light mixes usually need support earlier. If you begin base nutrients too soon in a rich soil, dark leaves, clawing and stalled growth are common. That is why experienced growers do not treat feeding charts as instructions. They treat them as ceiling values. Once flowering begins, the schedule should not swing overnight from one extreme to another. Plants still need enough nitrogen through the stretch, even as phosphorus and potassium demand starts to increase. A gradual changeover from veg feed to bloom feed is often cleaner than a hard switch, especially in living or amended soils where some nutrition is already present.

Root stress, poor drainage, pH drift and low temperatures can mimic nutrient problems very convincingly.

That is why corrections should be measured. If leaves are slightly pale in active vegetative growth, a modest increase in base nutrient is reasonable. If tips are burnt and leaves are dark, backing off is usually smarter than trying to balance it with extra additives. The more bottles you add, the harder diagnosis becomes.

Runoff can help with decision-making, but it should not be treated as the only indicator in soil. Calcium and magnesium are another common sticking point, especially under LED lighting or with soft water. If the root zone is too wet or pH is out, extra calcium will not solve it.
